Meeting Schedule

Meeting Dates are scheduled below.  Please note that we will try our very best to follow this schedule as close to possible.  Sometimes, however, events occur that might change these dates and, if this should happen, all Au Pairs and Host Families will be notified as quickly and in as much advance time as possible.  Helen

  • Thursday, May 20, 2010 (HOST FAMILY Event - Wine and Cheese with Cultural Care Upper Management - All Philadelphia (including Lehigh Valley) Host Families are invited to attend)
  • Saturday, May 22, 2010 (”The Amazing Race” in Philadelphia) (This meeting is “optional” and is held in Philadelphia.  There will be many CCAP Au Pairs participating in this Scavenger Hunt/Amazing Race.  Transportation will be on your own - we will discuss)

FEBRUARY MEETING #1 - Thursday, February 18

ALTERNATIVE MEETING

If you do not plan to Ski/Snowboard, our “Alternative Meeting” will be Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Barnes & Noble Bookstore (Café) at The Promenade Shops in Center Valley.  Please meet me at Barnes & Noble between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.  Although I offer this “Alternative Meeting” .. I encourage everyone to try Ski/Snowboard as it is usually one of the most popular events of the year.

 

FEBRUARY MEETING #2 –  SKI/SNOWBOARD MEETING

 SKI / SNOWBOARD MEETING

 **NOTE:   The Ski/Snowboard Meeting is the OFFICIAL Au Pair Meeting.   However, if you do not wish to attend, there will be a “Make-Up Meeting”.  You will not be charged a “Missed Meeting” if you do not attend the Ski/Snowboard Meeting, but you will need to attend the Make-Up Meeting.  However, I hope you consider the Ski/Snowboard Meeting - it is lots of fun!!   Details follow for Ski/Snowboard Meeting and “Make-Up Meeting”.  You will need to sign up for the Ski/Snowboard Meeting at the JANUARY Ice Skating Meeting .. IF AT ALL POSSIBLE — you should also bring your money for the Ski/Snowboard Meeting.  No Money will be taken on the Ski/Snowboard Day .. and .. if you do not pay at the Ski/Snowboard Meeting .. you will have to come to my house before the February meeting to pay.  You will have to complete a “rental form” at the January Meeting!

WHAT:             Ski/Snowboard / Learn to Ski/Snowboard Meeting

WHERE:            Camelback Ski Area, Tannersville, PA

*** IMPORTANT:   Meet at the SUNBOWL LODGE!!! (Not the Main Lodge)

TIME:     8:00 a.m. Arrival (LATEST!!) at the Mountain  (IF you are driving a car to Ski Area)

COST:    Prices always include ski/snowboard rentals, Lift Tickets and Lessons (if needed for beginners).  Helmets are also offered.

*Beginner Skier (includes equipment, Restricted - BEGINNER — area lift ticket, lesson): $55.00

*Beginner Snowboard (includes equipment, Restricted Area lift ticket, lesson): $55.00

*Experienced Skier (includes equipment, all area lift ticket, lesson):             $70.00

*Experienced Snowboarder (includes equipment, all area lift ticket, lesson): $70.00

*All Area Lift Ticket Only (You have your own equipment):                             $38.00

 

DIRECTIONS TO CAMELBACK FOR SKI / SNOWBOARD TRIP:  

1)      Review these directions!

2)      PLAN EARLY WHO WILL BE DRIVING (Always ask your Host Parents IF you can drive/Car Pool)

3)      DO NOT BE LATE - Arrival time is important

4)      REMEMBER:  SUN BOWL LODGE - NOT MAIN LODGE !!!!.

 DIRECTIONS TO CAMELBACK SKI AREA (Using Route 33 North).

 (CAR POOL!!)    (REMEMBER:  Meet at SUNBOWL LODGE (not Main Lodge))

 Þ      Travel Route 22 East  OR  Route 78 East to  ROUTE 33 NORTH.

 Þ      Continue on Route 33 North past several exits (example: Rt. 248 Exit, Wind Gap Exit, Route 209 Exit).  

 Þ      After 209 Exit, travel about 2-3 miles or so and get in LEFT Lane.   You will see a GREEN SIGN on the right side of the road saying “Camelback”.   Being in LEFT lane, follow ROUTE 80 WEST (Hazelton) / ROUTE 33 NORTH (Bartonsville).    (Do not go straight towards Stroudsburg.)

 Þ      Follow ROUTE 80 WEST (Hazelton) for a little while and there will be another turn to the LEFT to continue following ROUTE 80 WEST.  

 Þ      Follow Route 80 West to EXIT 299 (Tannersville).

 Þ      At Exit, turn RIGHT.   Travel a short distance to FIRST TRAFFIC LIGHT (Sullivan Trail).   TURN LEFT on to Sullivan Trail.  (Large Outlet Shopping Center on the right.)

 Þ      Continue on small road about ONE Mile to a slight “Y” in the road - actually it could be considered a “Left Turn”.  (:Barley Creek Restaurant will be on the Left and a GREEN SIGN for Camelback on the right.)     TURN or BEAR TO THE LEFT. 

 Þ      Travel about .8 mile and you will see a Snowtubing Hill on the left.   IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SNOWTUBING HILL, TURN LEFT.  (There should be a sign for “Glen Lodge” - follow this - but find SUN BOWL LODGE!). 

 Þ      Travel past the Glen Lodge and go to the SUN BOWL LODGE.  (Sun Bowl Lodge is the 2nd Lodge!  — DO NOT GO TO THE MAIN LODGE!!)   Park and we will meet in the SUN BOWL LODGE.   Come inside and Look for me or just wait in a group INSIDE until I find you!

MARCH MEETING

     WHEN:    Sunday, March 21, 2010

     WHAT:    Spring Egg Decorating

     TIME:      4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (approximately)

     DIRECTIONS to TRINITY MEMORIAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 535 West Emaus Avenue, Allentown, Pennsylvania  18103

*Using Route 309 SOUTH/I-78 EAST:

1.  Follow Route 309 South/I-78 East to SUMMIT LAWN EXIT (Exit 59).

2.  Turn LEFT at Exit and travel to FIRST TRAFFIC LIGHT.  

3.  TURN LEFT at traffic light on to Route 145/So.Pike Avenue/So. 4th St. (street is called all 3 names)

4.  Travel down hill to FIRST TRAFFIC Light (CVS on right/Dunkin Donuts on left).  

5.  TURN LEFT on to Emmaus Avenue.   Travel one block.  There will be a restaurant/bar called “Jelly Beans”.     There will be a very small street (alley) between Jelly Beans and the Church.

6.  Turn RIGHT into the small street and then turn LEFT into the parking lot of Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church

 *Using Route 309 NORTH:

1.  Follow Route 309 North and stay in right lane. As you cross I-78, follow signs for Route 145 - Allentown.

2.   Travel up and down hill to THIRD TRAFFIC LIGHT (CVS on right/Dunkin Donuts on left).    Follow No. 5 above.

 *Using I-78 WEST:

1.        Travel I-78 to EXIT 60B.   Exit at Exit 60B (Allentown/South 4th Street/Rt. 145 Exit) and stay in right lane. 

2.   Travel up and down hill to THIRD TRAFFIC LIGHT (CVS on right/Dunkin Donuts on left).    Follow No. 5 above

 

APRIL MEETING

     WHAT:     Wine and Cheese Night With Cultural Care Staff

     TIME (Tentative):    6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

MAY “OPTIONAL” MEETING

      WHEN:    Saturday, May 22, 2010

     WHAT:     “The Amazing Race” -  An event like a Scavenger Hunt - but with more “Amazing Race” Activity.   Many of the Philadelphia Au Pair Groups will be participating.   Because of the distance involved - and getting to the Philadelphia “Art Museum” Area - this event is strictly “optional” and you will be on your own to get there .. best transportation would be via the Bieber Bus to 30th Street Station and then taking a cab or walking (check the distance on Mapquest) to the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum.    Details on this will be coming in the next few months.

 

MAY MEETING

      WHEN:    Sunday, May 23 (Event To Be Announced or - if many Au Pairs do decide to attend “The Amazing Race” .. we may just have a “Coffee Night” during the week.   We will need to discuss this event as a Group.

 

JUNE MEETING #1 - Thursday, June 17 ALTERNATIVE MEETING

If you do not plan to Whitewater Rafting Meeting, our “Alternative Meeting” will be Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Barnes & Noble Bookstore (Café) at The Promenade Shops in Center Valley.  Please meet me at Barnes & Noble between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.  Although I offer this “Alternative Meeting” .. JANUARY MEETING - ICE SKATING

The January Au Pair Meeting for the Lehigh Valley Au Pairs be held on January 23, 2011. We will all go “Ice Skating”(Indoor Ice Rink).   ”Steel City Ice Center”  is conveniently located on the south side of Bethlehem on the site of the historic Bethlehem Steel Company.  The location is easily accessible from Routes 22 or 78 via Routes 378 and 412.   Plenty of parking is available.  Here are the details:
